Five Mile Lake

The Drive In

On Saturday we paddled a short bit in Five Mile Lake in Hants County. I had been there twice in the past, and knew the road was not great going into it. Lyl wanted to go and I said ok, but the road may not be good enough, but we'll go as far as we can and see anyway. We are driving a 1018 Volkswagen Golf Sportwagen. She's low to the ground. We got her in there. Had to go slow and manoeuvre around lots of rocks.

The Paddle

The lake was very calm and we headed out. We saw some grackles and swallows at the beginning. We went past an island and the wind picked up. We continued to paddle but when the water got a bit rougher we decided to paddle back. It was a hard go, but the paddle was short anyway so not a bog deal. When we were near the car we decided to go down a small marshy area and check out the birds. The swallows were flying around a considerable bit and they were fun to watch. I managed to get some photos of them before we loaded onto the car and headed back.

Barn and Tree Swallows

Trying to capture a good photo of the swallows flying was no easy task and I failed at that.
